Haynes 188 (China substitute material grades GH5188/GH188) is a cobalt-based superalloy renowned for its outstanding high-temperature mechanical properties and exceptional environmental resistance. The alloy's composition is predominantly cobalt, enhanced with significant additions of nickel, chromium, and tungsten, along with minor but critical alloying elements such as molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, titanium, lanthanum, and occasionally iron.
Haynes 188 retains remarkable strength at temperatures up to 980°C and demonstrates superior oxidation resistance even at 1100°C, making it an ideal material for critical high-temperature components in aircraft engines, including combustion chambers, turbine blades, and exhaust systems.It can be used to produce various deformed products, including thin plates, medium plates, strips, bars, forgings, wires, and precision castings.

Heat Treatment
The heat treatment process of Haynes188 includes solution treatment, typically carried out at 2125-2175 ° F (1163-1191 ° C), followed by rapid cooling or water quenching to achieve optimal performance.
- Hot rolled sheet: 1170-1190 ° C, air-cooled.
- Cold rolled strip and sheet: 1165-1230 ° C, rapid air cooling.
- Bar and forgings: 1180 ° C ± 10 ° C, rapid air cooling
Mechanical Property
The mechanical properties of Haynes188 vary under different heat treatment conditions. Haynes188 in annealed state has an average yield strength of 642 MPa, tensile strength of 928 MPa, and elongation of 57.3%. Alloys can increase their yield strength through cold working, up to a maximum of 250 ksi (1725 MPa).
