Inconel 718 is a high-strength, precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium superalloy containing significant amounts of iron, niobium, and molybdenum. It is the most widely used superalloy in the world due to its excellent combination of properties, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness compared to other nickel superalloys. Its chemical composition includes 52.5% nickel, 19.0% chromium, 3.0% molybdenum, 5.1% niobium+tantalum, 18.5% iron, 0.7% aluminum, and 0.5% titanium. This material exhibits exceptional high-temperature performance, maintaining excellent tensile strength, yield strength, and energy absorption capacity even under elevated temperatures.

Inconel 718 is typically heat treated to achieve optimal mechanical properties. The standard heat treatment process includes:

• Solution Annealing: Heating to 955-1010°C (1750-1850°F) followed by rapid cooling.
• Aging: Heating to 720°C (1325°F) for 8 hours, furnace cooling to 620°C (1150°F), holding for 8 hours, and then air cooling.
