Description

The material of Oxygen free copper pipe is pure copper that does not contain oxygen or any residual deoxidizers. But it still contains very trace amounts of oxygen and some impurities. According to the standard, the oxygen content shall not exceed 0.003%, the total impurity content shall not exceed 0.05%, and the purity of copper shall be greater than 99.95%.

 

Oxygen free copper has no Hydrogen embrittlement, high conductivity, good processing and welding performance, corrosion resistance, and low temperature performance. Then the Oxygen free copper pipe widely used in the production of conductive and thermal conductive equipment accordingly.

Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) refers to high-purity copper materials with extremely low oxygen content. According to the national standard GB/T 5231, it is mainly divided into two grades: TU1 (99.99% purity) and TU2 (99.95% purity). Their core differences lie in oxygen content, conductivity, and mechanical properties, making them suitable for high-end applications in different scenarios

Manufacturing Process

 

OFC pipes are typically produced using a specialized process to prevent contamination and ensure high purity:

  • Melting: High-purity electrolytic copper cathodes are melted in a controlled, oxygen-free atmosphere (often using a reducing gas or vacuum).
  • Casting: The molten copper is cast into a solid billet or hollow shell.
  • Extrusion: The billet is heated and forced through a die to form a seamless tube. Large-diameter OFC pipes (up to 508 mm) can be produced using powerful extruders.
  • Rolling & Drawing: The tube is then reduced to its final diameter and wall thickness through a series of cold rolling and drawing processes.
  • Annealing: The tube is heat-treated in a protective atmosphere (like hydrogen or nitrogen) to achieve the desired soft temper and relieve internal stresses.
